Backwell Festival always offers a range of creative and inspirational children’s entertainment! Here’s a taste of what’s on offer this year!

Circus Skills with the Invisible Youth wing of Invisible Circus all weekend, includes the tight wire, object manipulation and trapeze (Trapeze is Sunday afternoon only NB Please bring leggings or tracksuit bottoms – you will not be able to do the workshop if you are wearing a skirt or dress).
These amazing performers, who are also part of the incredible Arcadia spectacular, will also treat us to a special aerial show late on Sunday afternoon. Expect to be delighted and amazed with aerial acrobatics, juggling beat box, comedy devilstick and hula hoop performances.
Spin Bike Painting – all weekend – Join APE Project on their amazing pedal powered tandem tricycle spin painting machine. Make beautiful and totally unique exploding paintings, working in partnership with other children on this cooperative creative contraption. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Based at Windmill Hill City Farm, Guy and Rachel have developed novel ways to link Art, Play and the Environment.
Pop-up Planetarium. Saturday. In line with our intergalactic theme, we bring the only mobile, inflatable planetarium dome in the UK to the festival field! Ben Brown and his team of space boffins from Explorer Dome UK will lead a series of lively, interactive, sessions throughout the day, each one tailored to a different age group. You will be able to reserve your flights to the outermost constellations in our Kids area.
Crash, Bang, Music Workshops – Saturday – Caitlin and Josh teach the kids how to create some of the world sounds you will hear during the festival. They will hold joint sessions with LitterARTI – see below!
Pixelwhipped – Saturday – try your hand at some retro games in the afternoon in the Kids Area.
Meadowside – all weekend – supervised play area with lots of activites for the pre-schoolers.
Film Saturday evening supervised by Meadowside for youngsters when the sun goes down
Storyteller Michael Loader – Saturday – Michael may just be popular with adults too! His performance will tap into our Intergalactic theme. Director of the Somerset Storyfest, Michael has also had storytelling residencies with Natural England, the BRI Children’s Hospital, Brewhouse in Taunton and St George’s in Bristol.
Get Arty with LitterARTI Back by popular demand, LitterARTI goes intergalactic with us this year with their SPACE JUNK COOL FUNK workshops – they help you create alien masks and musical instruments with recycled materials, holding joint percussion sessions with Crash Bang – Saturday –
..and on Sunday morning Litter ARTI will help you fashion your own intergalactic costume.
A wonderful theatre performance narrated by the Moon on Sunday morning – The Tap Dancing Mermaid with Claire Crawford is suitable for would-be tap dancing merboys and mergirls aged 0 – 100. Come dressed up in a mercostume if you want.
Workshops of India – Sunday – learn Indian Painting and Indian drumming with Kate and Jay
Mojo Climbing Tower – Sunday – scale new heights and see the festival from an almost intergalactic view point.
Faeries and Feathers – both days – all things sparkly and magical! Glitter and wings are obligatory!
Henna art – Saturday – individual charges.
