“A magical and wondrous thing!”

From very humble beginnings, Backwell Festival has grown into a much-loved independent music festival in an idyllic setting. We offer an inspirational, diverse and eclectic line-up, with an emphasis on world rhythms, educational workshops, promote good food, creativity and art, and raise money for those important to us! We love local, and look global.

In 2009, Backwell Junior School PTA realised it was in the perfect position to hold a community event and staged the first Backwell Festival to raise money for the school. So, with the blessings and active support of head teacher Alex Bell, five Somerset bands took to the stage, we held a silent auction for, among other things, a signed copy of the new Kasabian album – the weather was fabulous and a much-loved community event was born.

The following year, the reputation of the festival preceded it, and tickets sold out weeks in advance. We have grown organically since then and now offer superb entertainment over three days.

Constantly evolving, our core team runs the festival independently, on a not for profit basis, with a group of media, event and music professionals who live locally. We donate to local and/or international causes and the remainder to the Junior School – in honour of our roots and to say thank you for hosting and supporting the festival, and helping it grow 🙂 Since 2009, we are proud to have raised ÂŁ20,000 for the junior school and  £5,000 for other local and international causes. Thank you for supporting us, it means a lot!
