This uplifting set will bring the heart of West Africa to the festival field. Batch Gueye’s soulful music is inspired by the Senegalese Baye Fall folklore.A Griot, Batch tells stories through his music and dance. His mother, grandmother, and those before them had been singers.
Batch found his voice singing prayers as a BayeFall Mouride Muslim. Many of his songs honour these roots and reflect his life experiences and wisdom, teaching you to be good to yourself and respect those around you to listen, to trust and to have faith in life.
His songs are sung in the Senegalese language Wolof.
Batch will also be taking a dance workshop earlier in the day at our Tent Stage. His energy as a dancer is as vibrant and colourful as the patchwork clothes of his BayeFall people. Like his music, his dance style is a collection of both traditional and modern African cultures, and his combination of strong and fast movement promises to be a striking display. He has performed for many famous Senegalese artists including Youssou N’Dour and Coumba Gawlo. In 2008 he won the Senegalese selection for the hit dance show “Afrika!Afrika” bringing him to Europe as professional dancer.
