One of Bristol’s most dynamic and talented musicians, Denny Ilett, steps into the shoes of Carlos Santana for this set, celebrating the group’s golden period, 1969 – 1976. This style of Latin influenced rock is truly magical! Santana came to the public’s attention following an appearance at Woodstock, but we’re going to chill out to this epic music with our clothes on!
Backed by some very fine musicians, Denny will play a choice selection of Santana gems from Black Magic Woman to Incident At Neshabur; from Samba Pa Ti to Oye Como Va and many more numbers from their heyday.
Denny has been a professional musician for more than 25 years, and has an extensive knowledge of jazz history, from it’s humble beginnings to the high art of today. He puts that knowledge to very good use as the Artistic Director of the very wonderful Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival.
A self-taught musician specialising in the guitar, Denny comes from a very musical family. He left school at the earliest opportunity because he knew the greatest education he would ever receive was by playing with and learning from his father’s peers. Denny has the good fortune to be able to play in a wide variety of styles and settings at, roughly, 150 concerts/gigs per year.
